Now I'm bawling like a baby!

First Day Of Kindergarten School Poem

~Author Unknown~

He started school this morning,
And he seemed so very small.
As I walked there beside him
In the Kindergarten hall.

And as he took his place beside
the others in the class,
I realized how all too soon
Those first few years can pass.

Remembering, I saw him as
he first learned how to walk.
The words that we alone made out
When he began to talk.

This little boy so much absorbed
In learning how to write.
It seems as though he must have grown
To boyhood overnight.

My eyes were blurred by hastily
I brushed the tears away
Lest by some word or sign of mine
I mar his first big day.

Oh how I longed to stay with him
And keep him by the hand
To lead him through the places
That he couldn't understand.

And something closely kin to fear
Was mingled with my pride.
I knew he would no longer be
A baby by my side.

But he must have his chance to live,
To work his problems out,
The privilege to grow and learn
What life is all about.

And I must share my little boy
With friends and work and play;
He's not a baby anymore --
He's in Kindergarten today.

I stopped after the first couple of verses.
My son is starting 8th grade - the last year at the school he has attended since preschool.
It is going to be weird next year for sure!

You need to print that out and add it to his scrapbook.

Oh Jenny!! Tears are rolling down my cheeks now! So, so true, with how I feel about my boys! We started school this week as well, and it was Gabe's birthday, and everything just seems to be moving too fast for my heart to catch up!

Hugs, my dear, sweet friend! Our boys will always have our hearts!

Oh Jenny, even with my boys all grown and being a grandma, I know just how your stomach must be tied in knots seeing your baby off. hugs

You got that exactly right, Roe. Even though I know he'll do great and we are all excited for him, I just feel sick to my stomach when I think that I'm going to have to leave him Monday morning and not see him until 3:15. All those thoughts of "what if...." and all the anxiety that goes along with them just hits me, and I just feel worried for him. I am trying to just say a little prayer over him every time I get hit with one of those feelings....but it's SO hard letting my baby grow up!! :(

Jenny, guess I have been gone too long....ok, here is your reminder..

You are CONCERNED...NOT worried...:)

No matter how old our children get, we still get the 'concerned' feeling. I do and my boys are 30 and 31! As for the grandkids..well, knowing they are so young and innocent I try to keep my feeling under control. I keep repeating my own message to myself..
